Award Criteria for Orange and Blue Award

Purpose:
The Orange and Blue Award is the Association's newest alumni award. This award was established to recognize an alumnus who has demonstrated outstanding and distinguished achievements in their personal, professional, and/or community involvement endeavors. Award recipient(s) must be a member of the Virginia State University Alumni Association in good standing and have been a graduate of Virginia State University for 11 to 20 years.
 
Criteria:
To be considered for the Orange and Blue Award, a nominee must meet the following criteria:
  • Nomination must be made by a financial member in good standing with the Virginia State University Alumni Association. All nominations are confidential and must be forwarded to the Alumni Association’s Awards Committee for consideration.
  • The nominee must be a graduate of Virginia State University (11 to 20 years).
  • The nominee must be a current financial member of the VSU Alumni Association, either as an at-large member or through a VSUAA chapter in good standing.
  • Nominee must demonstrate accomplishments in their personal endeavors, professional careers, and/or work in their community.
  • Only nomination forms distributed or posted online by the Association are acceptable for submission. In addition to the nomination form, other documentation supporting the nomination should also be submitted. A photograph -preferably head and shoulder- 300 dpi or higher must accompany the application.
Calendar:
Nomination forms and any supporting materials should be received by the Alumni Association Awards Committee no later than the third week in March of the year the person is nominated.  Nomination forms are due March 21, 2025.
 
Selection Methodology:
The Alumni Association Awards Committee will review the nominations and determine the recipient. The decision of the awards committee is final. The award recipient will be officially announced during the Alumni Association’s annual meeting on Saturday of the University’s Alumni Weekend & Commencement celebration.

VSU 2025 Football Schedule

The 2025 Football Schedule has been announced and highlighted by four home games. The Trojans start on the road against Barton College on a Thursday night, August 28, at 7 pm. The following week, the team will travel to rival Norfolk State, under the leadership of new coach Michael Vick, on September 6. After the bye week, they will play two away conference games, one against Winston-Salem State and one against Fayetteville State.

On October 4, Johnson C. Smith will travel to Rogers Stadium for the first home game, Military & First Responders Appreciation Day, and Family & Friends Weekend. After a trip to Bowie State, the Trojans play three straight at home against Elizabeth City State (Oct. 18), Bluefield State (Oct. 25), and Lincoln (Nov. 1) before finishing the season against Virginia Union on November 8. Elizabeth City State will be Faculty and Staff Appreciation, Bluefield State will be Homecoming, and Lincoln will be Senior Day. All home games will start at 2 pm unless televised by HBCU Go, which will start at 1 pm. The HBCU Go TV schedule will be released at a later date.
